Schlatter Scores 15 Points In Men’s Basketball’s 64-58 Loss To UC Davis

first_img Box Score (PDF) at Alaska-Anchorage 11/26/2016 – 3 p.m. Listen Live Preview Story Links ANCHORAGE, Ak. – The Drake University men’s basketball team dropped its second game at the GCI Great Alaska Shootout with a 64-58 loss to UC Davis on Friday, Nov. 25, at the Alaska Airlines Center.Drake (1-4) got a career-high 15 points from redshirt-sophomore Casey Schlatter (Iowa Falls, Iowa) but could not overcome a late, 9-3, run by UC Davis (5-2) or a 15-rebound deficit on the glass that sealed the victory for the Aggies. Schlatter’s career night came on 5-of-7 shooting with a 5-of-5 night at the free throw line with three rebounds and two assists.UC Davis was paced by 17 points from Brynton Lamar including three three-pointers with five assists. Darius Graham added 13 points on 5-of-6 shooting for the Aggies.”I thought we got better tonight and Davis is a good basketball team. We fought hard and had good mentality from start to finish,” said Drake head coach Ray Giacoletti. “The zone didn’t work as well as it did last night and we had to play more man.”Drake faced a 5-point, 35-30, deficit at halftime but opened the second half with a 6-0 run to briefly take the lead. Seven minutes into the period, Drake took the lead for the final time with layup from Reed Timmer (New Berlin, Wis.) but a later 9-3 run by UC Davis gave the Aggies a 53-47 lead on a Lamar three-pointer with 5:54 left. Drake pulled back within three points, 55-52, on a Billy Wampler (Eau Claire, Wis.) three-pointer with 3:21 left but would get no closer as UC Davis stretched its lead back out to as many as nine points twice in the final two minutes.The Aggies built up their first-half lead by making their first five shots from the field with a pair of three-pointers to open the game with a 14-5 lead in the first four minutes of the contest. With seven minutes left in the period, a 4-0 UC Davis run gave the Aggies an 11-point lead for the third time at 31-20. However, the Bulldogs outscored UC Davis, 13-7, over the final seven minutes of the period to trail at halftime, 35-30. Schlatter scored 11 of his points in the opening period on 4-of-4 shooting while making all three of his free-throw attempts.”Casey is somebody that we’re getting everything that we ask of out of him,” Giacoletti said of the forward’s career night.With the loss, Drake will face Alaska Anchorage on Saturday at 3 p.m. CST to close out the GCI Great Alaska Shootout.
