Jon Miller, April 25

first_imgShare Facebook Twitter Google + LinkedIn Pinterest After today we should be close to 90% of our corn planted and maybe 25% of our beans planted. We are ahead of the majority of our neighbors.I farm with my grandfather Max, my dad David, my uncle Jim, and my two cousins. We raise corn, soybeans and wheat and have a custom application business for lime and then we bale a good bit of straw in the summer.  We are also seed reps for Pioneer. My dad and cousin deal mostly with the seed business. The first wheat field we planted last fall seemed like it got a little damage from the late cold snap we had in April but the rest of the wheat acres are shaping up to look pretty good.We run a vertical tillage tool in the spring on most of our acres. A good bit of our bean acres were chiseled in the fall because we raise all non-GMO beans and the tillage helps with weed control.Planting has been going pretty well. I like to have the field work going about a day ahead of the planter and I have been catching up to them. There was one day I might have pushed it a little bit because they were calling for rain but we didn’t end up getting much rain to keep us out. There is a chance of rain about every day this week. We’ll probably put a fair amount of acres in today and we’ll probably get all but two fields of corn planted by tomorrow if the weather cooperates.last_img
