GL vs DD: Rishabh Pant makes school boy error, Suresh Raina pounces to run him out

first_imgRishabh Pant was caught napping on the field as brilliant Suresh Raina shattered the stumps of the Delhi Daredevils batsman in their Indian Premier League clash on Wednesday. The incident happened on the final delivery of the second over in Delhi’s chase of 196 against Gujarat Lions.Plenty of action happened on that ball. Left-arm pacer Pradeep Sangwan got a full length ball to nip back into the batsman from middle and off, Pant failed to work it around and was hit on the pads and the ball rolled behind towards Suresh Raina at the first slip. There was a loud appeal from the bowler and some Gujarat fielders to which umpire denied. (Dravid’s greatest gifts to Indian cricket this season)Pant, meanwhile, turned to tell his partner Karun Nair to stay at his end but didn’t realise that he himself was out of his crease. The ever active Raina realised that and was quick to react as he fired a direct hit at the striker’s end. They appealed in unison and the decision was referred to the third umpire, who gave it out. The replays showed that Pant was well outside the batting crease. This was not the first time that the 19-year-old batsman showed lack of awareness on the pitch. During the U-19 World Cup final in 2016 against West Indies, Pant was stumped in a similar way. He left alone a ball from Alzarri Joseph and was outside the crease when the keeper fired in the throw to find him short of the crease. (Hundred don’t matter, winning important: Iyer)advertisementThough Delhi were dented early in a massive chase but thanks to Shreyas Iyer’s superlative 96 off 57 balls, they managed to register their sixth victory.last_img
