Sheriffs deputies at scene of shooting in Hazel Dell


first_imgClark County Sheriff’s deputies Tuesday night were at the scene of a possible shooting around the 10500 block of Northeast Ninth Avenue in Hazel Dell, just west of Interstate 5.Shortly before 9 p.m., officers said they were investigating a possible gunshot wound, and asked officers in the vicinity to stop and identify anyone seen walking in the area, according to emergency radio traffic monitored at The Columbian.An official said someone had been reported to be bleeding. At 9:09 p.m., an officer urgently radioed for tactical officers.Minutes later an official said someone was being rushed to a hospital with two possible gunshot wounds, to the neck and top of the head. An official said paramedics had placed an IV line and were about to intubate the patient, which involves inserting a flexible plastic tube into the person’s windpipe to help them breathe.At 9:52 p.m., officers were asked to look for an older SUV that had been seen leaving Notchlog Drive in Hazel Dell. One person was said to be in the vehicle, a white male about 5 feet 5 inches tall.Notchlog is north of 99th Street, west of I-5 and east of Hazel Dell Avenue.SWAT officers were sent to Notchlog and were breaching doors of apartments, apparentlly looking for a suspect.As of 11:45 p.m., no information was available about how badly the victim was hurt, or whether a suspect had been identified.It appeared that sheriff’s Major Crimes Unit detectives were assisting with the case.More information should come later from the Sheriff’s Office.John Branton: 360-735-4513 or [email protected]last_img
