first_imgLogo of FireFive people, including a woman and her son, were burned to death as a house caught fire when they were sleeping in Golapganj upazila of Sylhet early Sunday.The incident occurred when lightning struck a gas riser in a colony of Dhaka Dakhhin union, leading to fire incident around 4:00am, local people said.Those who died on the spot were identified as Taskima Begum, 32, wife of Bablu Miah, hailing from Moglabazar Khalermukh village of South Surma upazila, their two-year-old son Tahmid, Sebul, 18, employee of Bablu, Jihad, 20, and Shebu Begum, 22, wife of Machhkandar Ali, hailing from Ponairchak village in the same upazila, according to UNB.About 20 others — residents and those who tried to rescue fire victims — were injured. They were taken to Golapganj upazila health complex for treatment.A seriously injured person was shifted to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital, said physicians at the health complex.Three of the houses were damaged entirely while four others partially in the fire that was extinguished after 6am.Two units of firefighters rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control after three hours’ frantic efforts, said AKM Fazlul Haque Sibly, officer-in-charge of Golapganj police station.Dinomoni Sharma, deputy assistant director of Sylhet Fire Service and Civil Defence, was quoted by UNB as saying that the fire originated from gas riser that was exploded by a lightning strike.last_img
