Amiens 1 Monaco 1: Jovetic rescues point but champions give PSG boost Joe Wright Last updated 1 year ago 05:55 11/18/17 AFP Paris Saint-Germain can go six points clear at the top of Ligue 1 on Saturday after Monaco failed to beat Amiens. Ligue 1 champions Monaco suffered another setback in their title defence as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Amiens on Friday.Stevan Jovetic cancelled out Serge Gakpe’s opener at Stade de la Licorne but Leonardo Jardim’s side could not avoid making it three away games out of four without a win in all competitions.Amiens went into the match in the bottom three in the table, but a run of four games without defeat has given them a renewed confidence that shone through during the first half. Since you’re here… Williamson is poised to join an unusually competitive team for a franchise who held the top pick. The Pelicans, who had a 6% chance at the first pick heading into the lottery, traded All-NBA star Anthony Davis a week ago, acquiring a treasure trove of future assets. And they’re still dealing. An hour before the draft, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported the Pelicans had dealt the fourth pick to the Atlanta Hawks – due to an arcane rule, teams cannot officially announce trades until the end of the league’s moratorium period, leading to awkward moments where drafts players are forced to wear one team’s hat on draft night, knowing they have already been traded to another. The Pelicans could be really, really good, really, really fast. All the pieces they’ve acquired in recent weeks are a perfect fit for coach Alvin Gentry’s go-go offense. If they gel quick, they could blitz everyone.Along with Williamson, the Pelicans added Jaxson Hayes and Nickeil Alexander-Walker in the first round on Thursday night. A young team just got younger. A fast team just got faster.New Pelicans head honcho David Griffin has now turned Davis into: Lonzo Ball, Brandon Ingram, Josh Hart, Hayes, Alexander-Walker, Cleveland’s 2020 pick, the Lakers pick in 2021 (if not in the top eight), the Lakers pick in 2022 if they don’t acquire the 2021 pick, the ability to swap pick with the Lakers in 2023, the Lakers pick in either 2024 or 2025, and stay with me, dumped Solomon Hill’s bloated contract – on the books for $12m. That, people, is the mother lode. It’s really fun to dream; cap room and picks could be anything! New Orleans is now building around Zion, a bunch of cap room, five (!) first-round picks, and a couple of former high picks – two back-to-back second overall picks – who could become quality running mates alongside Williamson.Only one player on the Pelicans roster is making more than $10m over the next three years. And that player, Jrue Holiday, who is on the books on a deal that escalates to $27m, will likely be moved on – for even more assets – now that the Pelicans have committed to a youth movement. Read more NBA draft 2019: Zion Williamson goes No 1 to Pelicans – as it happened Share on Pinterest Share on Twitter Share on LinkedIn Topics features Support The Guardian Pinterest Share on WhatsApp The history of first overall picks is the history of stars ending up on dud teams; there’s a reason a team selects at the top of the draft. Either the player flames out or he transforms the culture of the team from a lousy one into a winning one. When LeBron entered the league with Cleveland, he joined a dysfunctional operation. He did his best to drag the Cavs to success, taking them almost single-handedly to a NBA finals in 2007. But he had to ditch Cleveland to sniff championship success (incidentally, the Cavs returned to stinking as soon as James left … which allowed them to acquire the assets to entice James to return).Anthony Davis also got stuck with a lousy front office, staff, and organizational structure … in New Orleans. The Pelicans tried to turbo-charge the Davis timeline, hoping to become competitive right away and convince Davis that New Orleans was the right spot for him to stay long-term.With Davis onboard, the Pelicans sunk fat contracts into average players – the only kind who would move to New Orleans as free agents – and dumped draft picks in the hunt for All-Star or borderline All-Star caliber players to surround their prized asset.Things will be different for Zion – the highest rated prospect since Davis or James. Griffin seems content to build slowly, methodically. It’s the right way. Zion is going to be good right away. But he will still need some years to find his NBA legs. The season is long. The playoffs are a grind. He will need to get used to the rough and tumble of the pro basketball calendar. He could hardly be in a better spot. He will be able to grow and develop without the pressure of needing to win right away. He’s surrounded by players who are young but have been in the league long enough to know how to conduct themselves: how to get on a plane; how to manage a schedule; how to practice; when to hit the club. Those things sound dopey but they’re important. It’s why superstars, most notably LeBron, like to encourage their teams to jettison draft picks and rookies for veterans. There’s some veteran presence, but they’re not old guys. They can grow and build with Zion. And with the treasure trove of assets heading their way via the Lakers and Hawks, the Pelicans have plenty of chances to land one or two more stars through the draft or trade market. And while New Orleans hasn’t historically been a free agent destination, once Zion is up and running and [Insert Other Draft Pick] shows signs of stardom, there will be a queue of elite caliber players looking to team up for a tilt at the title.Zion is the league’s next super-duper star. No one can quite find a player comparison; we’ve just never seen someone built this thick be this agile. The only two former first overall picks who weigh the same as Zion – 285lbs – are Shaquille O’Neal and Yao Ming. Both of them towered over seven foot. Zion is 6ft 9in.“What strikes me? His agility and his quickness,” LeBron James said of Williamson at the All-Star break. “For his size, how strong he is, to be able to move like the way he moves, he’s very impressive. I mean, everybody can see the athleticism. That’s ridiculous. But the speed and the quickness that he moves [with] at that size is very impressive.”Zion has Defensive Player of the Year upside, with the attributes to be a volume scorer and the first-option on an elite offense. He can run plays or play off the ball. He’s a battering ram to the rim who can bounce and jump and slam over anyone.Zion doesn’t have any holes in his game. Scroll through draft guides and you will see the only listed concern as his ability to shoot. But that’s overstated. Firstly, we just watched Giannis Antetokounmpo romp to the MVP crown rarely shooting. Secondly, Zion can shoot. He hit 33% of his three-point shots in college, averaging two attempts a game. Now that he can swap sociology for basketball-ology, he could push that number closer to 40%. At that figure, Zion’s offensive game would be diverse and borderline unstoppable. There’s rarely such a thing as a can’t-miss prospect. And it’s hard to pull off the perfect rebuild. But Zion and his Pelicans are coalescing into something truly special. Williamson is the future of the NBA, and so are the Pelicans. Share via Email … we have a small favour to ask. Throughout its extensive history, Porsche has created a number of spicier 911 models, but its first stab at extracting more performance from its standard car wore the 911S badge in 1966. By 1973, the 911S had a power-to-weight ratio of just 12.7 pounds-per-horsepower. That year, Suzie Hunt and Scott Campbell purchased one of the last ’73 model year 911S cars at a time when these models were restricted to just six cars per dealership. The couple had no plans to baby their new purchase. Soon after they took delivery, Campbell and Hunt drove from Reno to Salt Lake City at an average speed of 95.8 mph. During the run, Campbell would hit 150 mph. Over the next three years, the couple dominated Porsche Club of America autocross events across Nevada and Northern California. In 1977, Hunt won the Porsche Club of America Porsche Parade.Twenty six years after taking home their silver beauty, the couple sold the car to its current owner, who has taken meticulous care of the car ever since. Inside and out, the 911S looks spectacular. The engine was professionally bored from 2.4-liters to 2.7 liters, adjustable Koni shocks and disc brakes were added, and forged Fuchs wheels, staggered to fit the car’s RS fender flares, spin Pirelli P6000s tires. At $345,000, this 911S is reserved for serious collectors and purists, but anyone is free to appreciate its classic looks and enthusiast-owned history. Attempting to predict which vehicles will surge in value, and, more importantly – when – is about as arduous as winning the lottery. Just look at classic Porsche 911 models. For decades, all manner of first generation 911s (built between 1963 and 1989), 964s (built between 1989 and 1994), and 993s (built between 1994 and 1998) changed hands at a fraction of a rate they do today. Seemingly overnight, $30K daily drivers became $120K collectors’ items. We can’t say the valuation is unwarranted – Porsche’s 911 has stayed truer to its heritage over the last 86 years than any other nameplate. With this wild upswing affecting even unremarkable or poorly maintained examples, rare and unique cars have taken an especially impressive leap. Which brings us to the latest offering from RK Motors: a 1973 Porsche 911S with an incredible story. You might remember our last feature on RK, which detailed an immaculate 1971 Hemi Cuda.

Bengaluru: The opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will stage protests across Karnataka on Tuesday demanding Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy’s resignation as his coalition government lost majority following the resignation of 14 Congress-JD-S legislators and two Ministers, a party official said. “Our leaders and cadres will hold demonstrations in all the district headquarters across the state between 11 a.m. and noon for Kumaraswamy’s resignation, as he has no moral right to continue after the MLAs of the ruling allies resigned and his government has been reduced to minority in the Assembly,” Bharatiya Janata Party spokesman G. Madhusudana told IANS here. Beijing: India and Pakistan should quickly turn the page after the Pulwama terror attack, meet each other halfway and convert the present tensions into an opportunity for long term and fundamental improvement in their relations, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Friday. Wang also said post-Wuhan summit between President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, China wants to develop closer ties with India and forge ahead like the “Yangtze and Ganges” rivers despite Beijing’s all weather ties with Pakistan. Tensions between India and Pakistan escalated after a suicide bomber of Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) killed 40 CRPF personnel in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama district in February 14. India launched a counter-terror operation in Balakot on February 26. The next day, Pakistan Air Force retaliated and downed a MiG-21 in an aerial combat and captured its pilot, who was handed over to India on March 1. “China hopes Pakistan and India will transform the crisis into opportunity and meet each other halfway,” Wang said at his annual press conference on the sidelines of the National People’s Congress, China’s Parliament. He was replying to questions on the present India-Pakistan tensions following the Pulwama terror attack and how China plans to carry forward the spirit of last year’s Wuhan summit between Prime Minister and President Xi. “We advise both the parties to quickly turn the page and seek fundamental, long term improvement in their relations. When confrontation gives way to dialogue and disagreement are settled, we can create a better future through cooperation,” he said. Recent events focussed international attention on the India-Pakistan relations, he said stating that China played a constructive role to resolve the tensions between the two neighbours. “China has stressed from the beginning the need to exercise restraint prevent an escalation, find out what has happened and resolve the matter through dialogue,” Wang said adding that Beijing tried to play a mediatory role. “In the meantime, country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity should fully respected. China followed these principle in its mediation and played a constructive role in defusing the tension”, he said. China recently dispatched its Vice Foreign Minister Kong Kong Xuanyou to Pakistan where he held talks with Prime Minister Imran Khan, Army Chief Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi, besides Foreign Secretary Tehmina Janjua, on ways to ease the India-Pakistan tensions. His visit coincided with the US, the UK and French application in the 1267 counter terrorism committee of the UNSC to declare JeM chief Masood Azhar as a global terrorist. If listed by the committee, Azhar would face a global travel ban and asset freeze. the JeM has already been banned by the UN. While China blocked India’s previous attempts to declare Azhar as a global terrorist, expectations are high that this time Beijing may take a different stand considering JeM has admitted its role in the Pulwama terror attack. “In the last couple of days both Pakistan and India indicated a desire to de-escalate the situation and start talks. We welcome this. Pakistan and India are neighbours and always have to live with each other,” Wang said. “Both countries face important opportunities to realise stability, development and prosperity. China hopes the two countries will get along and progress together,” he said. Asked post-Wuhan summit, how China plans to develop its relations with India in the light of challenges and Beijing’s close ties with Pakistan, Wang said 2018 was an “year of great significance for China and India relations”. “The historic meeting between President Xi and Prime Minister Modi at Wuhan has created a new model of high level interactions between our two countries deepened and trust between our leaders and set the direction for our future relations,” he said. The priority now is to see that the strategic understanding reached by the two leader should go down to the people and become their common view through conscious efforts, he said. “China will work with India to comprehensively strengthen sectoral cooperation and people-to-people ties which are vital importance in the current context so that our friendship and cooperation will forge ahead like the Yangtze and Ganges giving strong and sustained impetus to our relationship,” he said. Wang said India and China are ancient civilisations with combined population of 2.7 billion besides being the largest developing countries and neighbours. “China and India should be each other’s partners in pursing our respective dreams and each other’s important opportunity for growing our respective economies. Collectively we must make our due contribution to Asia’s revitalisation and prosperity,” the foreign minister said.
New Delhi: State-run Air India seems to be finally getting its preferential rights in allocation of traffic rights over foreign routes after losing it to private carriers in the previous UPA government. The government has decided to allot it about 5,700 weekly seats out of grounded Jet Airways’ unused quota on the lucrative India-Dubai route. The public sector airline has also been promised over 5,000 seats on India-Qatar route besides about 4,600 additional seats to and from London following the re-allocation of grounded Jet’s unused international traffic rights. Also Read – Commercial vehicle sales to remain subdued in current fiscal: IcraA Civil Aviation Ministry told IANS that Air India will get preference in allocation of bilateral seat entitlements. “The allocation would be for the ongoing summer schedule and considered temporary given that efforts are on to revive Jet Airways,” said a reliable source. Amid faint possibility of grounded Jet Airway’s revival anytime soon, the ministry had on May 3 held a meeting with local carriers to discuss re-allocation of the airline’s foreign traffic rights. Also Read – Ashok Leyland stock tanks over 5 pc as co plans to suspend production for up to 15 daysPrivate carriers SpiceJet, IndiGo, GoAir, Vistara and Air India had pitched for bigger share of the pie in the last meeting. While IndiGo co-founder Rahul Bhatia had suggested for allocating foreign traffic rights in proportion to various airlines’ fleet capacity, Vistara argued that smaller airlines be given bigger share. Jet Airways had last month withdrawn operations due to severe fund crunch and remain grounded in absence of a viable revival plan. While re-allocation of traffic rights would ensure additional capacity on various popular foreign routes thus reducing fare level, it will significantly affect the valuation of Jet Airways. Investors are already miffed over the government’s move to re-allocate its slots at various domestic airports.
8 November 2011The United Nations has deplored the loss of life that occurred during election-related violence in the Liberian capital yesterday, and called on everyone to exercise restraint and ensure that peace is maintained. The Mission said it is in contact with the relevant authorities to prevent any escalation of the situation.Liberians are voting today in the presidential run-off pitting incumbent Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf, Africa’s first democratically elected female president, against challenger Winston Tubman of the Congress for Democratic Change, who came second in the first round of the vote on 11 October. However, Mr. Tubman has reportedly refused to participate in the second round of voting, alleging that it will not be fair, and there have been calls to boycott the poll – the second presidential election since the country emerged from war in 2005.UN officials and the Security Council have in recent days called on Liberians to refrain from violence and conclude the electoral process in a peaceful manner. In a radio address to the nation yesterday, Ellen Margrethe Løj, the Secretary-General’s Special Representative and head of UNMIL, stressed that all Liberians who wish to vote in the run-off must be able to do so freely and in safety.
